What You Need to Know About KRACK Attacks

It has been a number of weeks since a major flaw was reported in what is called the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) protocol and we have been monitoring the tech blogs to see how this would shake out. Let’s address the protocol and the roll it likely plays in your life.

The WPA protocol is in use in all modern Wi-Fi networks, therefore all modern wireless device are likely affected. This includes laptops, tablets, cell phones, etc. The attack allows a hacker to eavesdrop on your wireless transmissions; that said, keep in mind that the hacker would have to be physically in range of your wireless network. The good news is that the major tech companies (think Microsoft, Apple and Google) have already provided patches for their respective operating systems.  Make sure to run your updates!

On the other side of the equation are routers and access points and many brands/models will also need updating.  This is a bit more complicated.  If you need assistance, ICS can help! Give us a call, and we’ll give you piece of mind.
